Chord Progression

Definition: A succession of two or more chords that have a harmonic coherence, especially a pattern used repeatedly in the same form (such as cadential formulas or the 12-bar sequence known as the Blues progression (jazz)). The series of harmonies underlying an existing theme (often a popular song) used as the basis of a jazz performance is called the set of “changes” or “chord changes.”
